Josh Welshans
Youth Leader
I’m originally from San Pedro, California. I currently serve as the Youth Leader of the 509Teens Youth Program, where I empower and support local teens through prevention, wellness, and community connection. Outside of this work, I proudly serve as an Airman in the Air National Guard. I’m passionate about creating positive change and building strong, supportive communities.
Tanisha Arquette
Youth Prevention Specialist
I was born in Yakima and raised in Ellensburg, where I have spent most of my life. I’m a proud mother of five. Currently, I’m pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Services. After years of personal struggle with addiction—and witnessing the impact it had on my family as a child—I felt a deep calling early in my recovery to help others still suffering. I earned my Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Substance Use Disorder and spent the last 3.5 years working in the community as a Substance Use Disorder Professional. This work has been incredibly meaningful, but as I progressed in my education and reflected on my long-term goals, I realized I wanted to do more—beyond the boundaries of traditional treatment and counseling work.
My cousin Corey was the motivation that drove me to Peers Rising. I was drawn to the opportunity to support individuals in a way that isn’t confined by the structure of clinical counseling. I wanted the freedom to meet people where they are at, to provide real-time support, and to walk alongside them through each challenge and milestone. More than anything, I want people to know there is always someone there to fight their demons with them.
Kay Martin
CWU Intern
I am from Graham, Washington, and I will graduate from CWU this June (2026) with a degree in Psychology. I plan to work in community psychology to provide spaces for people to visit and educate the community about maintaining mental health. I was drawn to Peers Rising/509TEENS because it’s a great resource to the Ellensburg community that offers a safe space for students to hang out and build connections.
